(WASHINGTON)-Today, the United States Supreme Court issued a 5-4 opinion in Janus v. AFSCME. Chris Melody Fields Figueredo, Executive Director of the Ballot Initiative Strategy Center (BISC), issued the following statement:
“BISC is incredibly disappointed by the Supreme Court’s unjust decision in Janus v. AFSCME today. Today’s decision was the culmination of decades of conservative efforts to silence the voices of working people and hand power back to corporations.
Unions are one of the most effective vehicles to move people into the middle class, especially for women and people of color. That is why BISC has always stood side by side with our brothers and sisters in labor. We will continue to organize, hold our elected leaders accountable, and fight back against efforts to divide us and weaken the strength in numbers we need to sustain our families and make our communities stronger.
BISC is even more committed to working with our labor partners to create an America where everyone can succeed, not just the wealthy few.”
