ROAD AHEAD ’23 FAQ


Road Ahead – BISC’s signature, invitation-only conference is the progressive community’s conference solely dedicated to ballot measures. BISC’s yearly event features state-based advocates, ballot measure campaign experts, movement leaders, and funding partners – all focused on how ballot measures can build power and be a tool for liberation.

When is Road Ahead 2023?

It will be held May 9-11, 2023. We encourage people traveling in person to arrive a day ahead on May 8th. May 9 and 10 will be full days and May 11 will be a half-day.

Who comes to Road Ahead?

Road Ahead attendees come from all corners of the country and all parts of the progressive community. What unites them all is a desire to use ballot measures as a vehicle for social change.

What are the conference’s COVID-19 protocols and requirements?

Before registering to attend Road Ahead 2023, please consider the following COVID-19 guidelines for all attendees:

To attend Road Ahead ’23 you must be COVID -19 vaccinated and have at least one booster shot. Physical distancing and masking are optional but there will be face masks and rapid antigen tests on site available to attendees.

As a reminder, full COVID-19 vaccination is equivalent to:

Two (2) doses of either the Moderna or Pfizer vaccine or one (1) dose of the Johnson & Johnson vaccine AND one (1) booster dose of either the Moderna or Pfizer vaccine.  

Regardless of your vaccination status, if you are ill or feeling symptoms of illness, if you have recently been tested for COVID-19 and are still awaiting your results, or if you have been exposed to someone with COVID-19, we ask that you please stay home.

Can I see the attendee list?

The attendee list will be shared with registrants at the start of the conference through the event app.

Are there scholarships to attend Road Ahead?

BISC will be offering a limited number of scholarships to first-time attendees and/or organizers within our movement that will cover participants’ conference registration and hotel accommodations. How do I become a presenter at Road Ahead?

All Road Ahead speakers are selected by BISC staff.

What is Road Ahead’s cancellation and refund policy?

Cancellation requests can be emailed to [email protected] until 2 weeks prior to the event (Monday, April 24, 2023). Refunds for cancellations will not exceed 50% of the registration cost. Cancellation requests received on or after April 24th will be reviewed on a case-by-case basis.

Ticket transfers are encouraged in lieu of cancellations.

Ticket transfers can be made until 1 week prior to the event (Monday, May 1, 2023). Transfer requests made on or after May 1 will be reviewed on a case-by-case basis.

If Road Ahead 2023 is canceled, attendees will receive a full refund.

Hotel reservations must be canceled by the attendee separately from the Road Ahead registration.

Does Road Ahead have a dress code?

No, but most attendees dress in casual or business casual attire. Because the temperature in the conference rooms can fluctuate, we strongly suggest dressing in layers.

Is it possible to reserve a room at the conference for a special meeting?

Unfortunately, our conference space does not have private rooms for meetings.

Are meals served at Road Ahead?

BISC will provide breakfast, lunch and one snack on the first two days of the conference. On day three only breakfast will be served. Beverages will be available throughout the conference.
