Dana Laurent

Senior Strategic Advisor

As the Senior Strategic Advisor at the Ballot Initiative Strategy Center (BISC), Dana leads the organization’s work to vision, integrate, evolve and assess BISC’s program work, and also is in charge of harnessing emerging ideas to benefit BISC, ballot measures, and the progressive ecosystem. For nearly 5 years Dana was BISC’s Director of Strategic Initiatives, founding and evolving the organization’s long-term work to harness ballot measures as a vehicle for progressive and equitable policy change and power-building through BISC’s Roadmap Alignment work.

As the former Executive Director of Win/Win in Washington state, Political Director at Planned Parenthood Votes Northwest, and political consultant, Dana has over a dozen years’ experience building and leading coalitions, managing campaigns, programs, and organizations at the state and national level. Dana has played pivotal roles in some of Washington’s largest and most successful ballot measure campaigns and has seen the power of direct democracy up close—not just in the ability to change policy, but in the ability to build long-term power, infrastructure and organizing capacity.

In a former life, Dana has been a used and rare book buyer, art director, studio manager and producer, and managed international marketing campaigns for companies such as Getty Images and JWT Worldwide. Dana lives with her husband and two cats in Geneva, NY, amongst a plethora of lakes and wineries, where they own a small vintage store specializing in art, furniture, and records.
