Gina Berne

Senior Manager, Defend Direct Democracy

Gina is an organizer and policy advocate committed to building feminist movements that center people of color and the working class. As the Senior Manager for BISC’s Defend Direct Democracy Campaign, Gina provides strategic assistance to our state partners to protect access to the people’s tool.

Before coming to BISC, Gina served as NARAL Pro-Choice California’s Organizing Manager, where she mobilized over 300,000 NARAL members in support of pro-choice candidates up and down the ballot; and led legislative efforts to increase abortion access, expand job-protected paid family leave, and improve maternal health outcomes for Black Californians.

As a Dr. Beatriz Solís Policy Fellow, Gina wrote policies to address racial disparities in foster care placement decisions. Prior, she worked as a Legislative Aide in Oregon’s Senate, as a Field Director for state legislative campaigns, and as an Electoral Fellow with Planned Parenthood of Southwestern Oregon.

Gina was raised in the San Francisco Bay Area, and she received her B.A. in Sociology and Political Science from the University of Oregon. She currently lives with her husband in Washington, DC, where she can be found volunteering for her local abortion fund and watching the Real Housewives.
