Washington, D.C. — Earlier today, Ballot Initiative Strategy Center’s (BISC) Executive Director, Chris Melody Fields Figueredo, issued the following statement congratulating DACA recipients and immigration activists on their ceaseless efforts to defend DACA and immigrant youth:

“Today’s decision by the United States Supreme Court rejecting the Trump administration’s efforts to end the Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals (DACA) program is an important step in our efforts to build a world where all people are fully liberated, live with dignity and thrive. This is a movement led by young immigrants of color who are our fellow citizens—they live, work, and study in the United States.

This momentous decision is a critical step forward for our immigrant communities, but our work here is far from over. BISC will continue to fight alongside DACA recipients and immigration activists to push for ballot initiatives that further protections for immigrant communities, because home is here.

We cannot forget that of the 800,000 DACA recipients, 11,000 are Black dreamers. When we say #HereToStay, we also say #BlackLivesMatter. Thank you to the immigrant youth movement that has been here for decades, fighting so that all people have a voice in our democracy.”
