Hands Off Our Vote: Standing in Solidarity With Ohio Organizing Collaborative
WASHINGTON — The Ballot Initiative Strategy Center (BISC) stands in solidarity with the Ohio Organizing Collaborative, a voting rights organization, following an FBI raid of their offices as well as the homes of staff connected to their work. These raids are a deliberate attack to intimidate and keep people from voting — and to keep votes from counting, in order to control the outcomes of our elections. Since the raids, the #HandsOffOhio website and hashtag have been created where people can get more information.
Quentin Savwoir, Director of Programs and Strategy at BISC, issued the following statement:
“This is more than an attack on one organization; this is an attack on Ohioans’ freedom to vote. In this moment where authoritarianism continues to creep into democracy each day, we have a responsibility to keep power where it belongs: in the hands of the people. Together, we must stand up against these intimidation tactics to protect the political power of Black people, people of color, working class, and young voters. At BISC, we remain committed to supporting state-based organizations that empower We the People to elect our leaders—not the other way around. When people show up to vote in high numbers, it’s more difficult for powerful, special interests to rig the rules. Hands off our vote.”
