Missouri Voters Save Direct Democracy by Rejecting Amendment 4
Missouri voters have protected the voices of voters across the state and secured a landmark victory for the People’s Tool nationwide, rejecting a dangerous attack on direct democracy, majority rule, and the will of the people.
BISC knows that voters rely on the initiative process to enact bold solutions that help their communities thrive. Ballot initiatives have repeatedly proven to be the bridges we build to get from possibility to power, and in recent years, Missouri voters have used the tool to raise the minimum wage, restore their reproductive rights, expand their access to Medicaid coverage, and more.
The voters have spoken. Lawmakers now have an opportunity to learn from the failure of Amendment 4 and a responsibility to protect the People’s Tool moving forward.
