Failure to Qualify MO’s People Not Politicians Referendum Undermines Direct Democracy

The refusal to certify the Missouri People Not Politicians referendum is yet another attempt to undermine the will of the people. Hundreds of thousands of Missourians across the state — and across party lines — have called for a chance to weigh in on the legislature’s gerrymandered map, yet this citizen-led effort has been repeatedly tangled up in red tape designed to silence voters’ voices and subvert the constitutionally-protected right to direct democracy. As our partners in Missouri continue their fight to qualify the referendum, BISC remains committed to supporting their efforts to ensure that every voter’s voice is heard this election.
