Ballot Initiative Strategy Center to Host Pre-Election Press Briefing on Ballot Measures on October 20, 2022
The Zoom call will feature BISC Executive Director, Chris Melody Fields Figueredo, who will present key findings on the 2022 ballot initiative landscape, as well as state organizers from ballot measure campaigns across the country.
WASHINGTON — The Ballot Initiative Strategy Center will host a pre-election Zoom press briefing with BISC Executive Director, Chris Melody Fields Figueredo, and state ballot measure campaign leaders.
Ms. Fields Figueredo will present an overview of the 2022 ballot measure landscape, ballot measures to watch, key trends, and advances and attacks on the ballot measure process.. Movement leaders from key ballot measure campaigns across the country will share why their campaigns are critical at this time, what’s at stake, and what it means for the future of our democracy. There will also be a Q and A at the end of the call.
The call will be held Thursday, October 20 at 3:00 – 3:45 PM ET.

This year, the organization is working to pass Proposition 209, which will protect Arizona families from predatory debt collection. No Arizona family should lose their home or car due to medical emergencies or accidents, or be trapped into unending debt by unfair interest rates on medical care.
- Kymara Seals – Policy Director, Arkansas Public Policy Panel
An Arkansas native, Kymara is the Policy Director of the Arkansas Public Policy Panel, which is organizing against Issue 2 in Arkansas, which would change the threshold for passage of ballot initiatives and constitutional amendments from a simple majority to 60 percent, allowing just 40 percent of voters to block the will of the people.
- Rachel Sweet – Campaign Manager, Protect Kentucky Access and Kansans for Constitutional Freedom
Rachel Sweet is the Campaign Manager for Kansans for Constitutional Freedom, a bipartisan coalition committed to protecting the constitutional rights of Kansans. This past August, the campaign was successful in defeating the constitution amendment that would have paved the way for a total ban on abortion in Kansas.
- Theeda Murphy – Co-Director, No Exceptions Prison Collective, in Tennessee
Theeda Murphy is an activist, counselor, and dreamer and currently serves as a Co-Director for No Exceptions Prison Collective, which is promoting Amendment 3 in Tennessee. The amendment would remove language that allows for slavery and involuntary servitude as criminal punishments in the state’s constitution.
